ARDMORE & BLACK
The House · Est. MDCCCLXXXVII

One hundred and thirty-eight years of quiet work.

Ardmore & Black was established in 1887 by Alasdair Black, a former cooper from Dufftown who walked west until he found water that suited him. He found it in Glen Ardmore, a narrow Highland valley fed by a spring rising through pink granite. He purchased the land outright and built a distillery of three copper stills.

The stills are still three. The spring still rises. The land has never changed hands. Hamish Black, the fourth-generation master distiller, walks the same warehouse floors his great-grandfather built, drawing from casks his father laid down.

We do not advertise. We do not expand. We do not produce limited editions for the festive season.

We produce roughly 38,000 bottles per annum across four expressions. When a vintage cask is judged ready, we draw it. When it is gone, it is gone. There are no plans for a visitor centre, a gift shop, or a celebrity blend. There never have been.

Our customers are, for the most part, the same families who bought our whisky in their grandparents' time — collectors, sommeliers, private cellars, a handful of London members' clubs, and a small number of curious palates discovering us each year.

This site is the only place to acquire our whisky directly. We do not retail through supermarkets or duty-free. Each bottle is hand-numbered, accompanied by a certificate of provenance, and dispatched in a fitted oak case.
